It is all about net promotion. I have really focused a great deal of my time this past year on how I can get some on-line presence. That on-line presence has helped me get buffs from around the nation and also the world. It didn’t occur immediately though. I had a great deal of trial and error going through the entire process. I am not a master at it by any means, but I’m definitely much further along when I first started.
You just have to dive into it and start learning and making mistakes. The best thing that I did was I learned from the errors of others. So many internet marketers have made the same mistakes over and over and I’m no different.
Doing Too Much:
This really is my biggest character flaw. I put too much on my plate. There is so much out there when it comes to marketing online. Virtually too much! This really is where some musicians fail since they attempt and manage everything. They’ve 15 different on-line music reports, and they are all thinned out.
There’s only so much time in the day and you also can’t do it all. Instead of having 10 different music accounts and trying to spread yourself thin, focus on 2 or 3 and help it become work with that.
Personally, I exclusively focus on 3 or 4 primary social media accounts. I use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube. I haven’t used my Reverb Nation page, but I think I might start doing that soon. For holistic information on soundcloud promotion go to this page now.
With all these alternatives of social networks, it’s nearly a part time job trying to update your status on all these accounts. I used to have a post on Facebook, then copy and paste the same bill to my FB fan page, and then paste it into my Twitter accounts, and then paste it again… it was so time consuming!
That’s the reason why you should begin looking into a social media management system. There are a lot of them out there, but I personally use a firm called Hootsuite.
Should you not comprehend, then don’t give up. Prepare yourself and do some research. We live in the age of Google, YouTube and newsgroups. I promise that whatever question you have about on-line music promotion has been asked or has been written about. Looking up websites and watching YouTube videos is the best method of learning how to use any social media, how to advertise yourself, etc…
Wish to know the best way to learn and get information fast?
Just ask. The best part about the internet is it is really all about link. People out there like to help folks and want to help each other outside. So just ask and you’d be amazed at what you are able to learn.
So you began promoting your music on your own Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and anything you want to make use of and then you wait and then nothing. You send out one tweet and no one responds. You simply have 9 followers and no one seems to care. Do not give up yet!
It takes time. I’m certain you have heard the saying that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Well, it is the same matter with your internet presence. It takes some time to grow and make that link with people. It doesn’t occur with one posting or one video. It’s a collection of doing the small things right and it builds up over time.
Think of it as a garden. You can’t just put a seed and walk away. You have to water daily. Pick out the weeds. You have to tend to your garden. I’m certain you’ve heard the expression the “Grass is greener on the other side”. Well it’s probably because that other person takes care of their grass!
When you set time and effort into something you will find it grow and develop over time… guaranteed. It just won’t happen in a day or a week. Occasionally it takes months to get the ball rolling, but one day after all the hard work it’ll pile up and the momentum will be amazing!
Be Consistent and Constant:
Like anything in your business, it will take time to grow. No business can expect to put a couple hours of work into something and then give up because it does not work for them in the first month.
The web is here to stay. You may be one of those men that are only old school and posting your flyer around town so the local folks can see it or you can learn how to master the internet tools that are given to you. With a couple clicks of the button along with a great subsequent you can spread the word about your new single, video or Kickstarter to thousands of folks around the globe!
Tailor Your Internet Marketing to Your Likes and Needs:
There are some general rules in internet marketing which should be followed but when it comes to the approaches of advertising your music then it is all up to you personally. Learn the fundamentals first and what’s common practice. Bound into it and just start going at it. Make your errors. Learn what you enjoy and what you don’t like.
Some people are all about blogging. Some musicians rely just on YouTube. Some are all about Facebook and twitter. It is all about you and what you enjoy. Figure out what you enjoy the most and master that.
Advertising your music online and also making a link with new people is exciting and fun. This shouldn’t be a daunting endeavor. When I work on a music video, upload it and someone from England says they like it and they become a devotee, then that’s what makes it all worth it. Now should you hate shooting videos and do not enjoy being in front of the camera, then perhaps YouTube isn’t for you.
